Convention/Competition

Here is where you can find out about the Northeast Clogging Convention and Competition, this is the Super Bowl for all clogging groups in the Northeastern United States.  Want to know more about the NECC, please view their website at http://www.freewebs.com/necc

Convention - the Northeast Clogging Convention, or NECC, was started back in 1988 by the Kendall family.  The very first NECC took place in White River Junction, Vermont at the local high school, a 4-day-3-night festival...a celebration of Northern clog dancing.  Lodging was at the local Holiday Inn, as a former member of the Board of Directors for the National Clogging Leaders Organization, Beth Kendall felt a need to create an event where clogging groups throughout the region could congragate and converse with one another.  There was a 2 day workshop filled with international and national clogging instructors teaching new material for local instructors could take back and use.  It all came to a head on Saturday night, when the groups would put a grand exhibition with songs and routines that would coralate with the Convention's theme each year.

Beth has since delegated some of her responsibilities to her daughter, Joy Denis and Kara Kendall.  Joy handles the competition and Kara the convention.  The NECC has grown over the last 20 years and now raves a whopping 500 convention goers each year.  Interested?  You can email bkendall@tops-tele.com for information or call (802)439-3349.  Ask for Beth.

Competition - The Northeast Clogging Competition, or also known as the NECC, was added to the convention in 1994.  A rather smaller part held on Friday night, competition was still loose and unorganized due to lack of entries.  Now 13 years later, Competition has become the very reason that some groups go...to measure their dancers' ability against other dancers.  Kara, a former director of Northern Light Cloggers and former member of the New England All Stars, her experience took the competition to the extreme, Joy has since taken it over.  Adding a panel of judges, most national instructors, to judge upon technical ability, enthusiam, and many other categories.  If you have a group and want to put their talent to the test, then this is the place to do it.
